I was wondering...(I wonder ALOT!) how many of you have horses? My passion other than Heartland would be horses of course, so I was wondering (I wondered again!) if any iloveheartlanders are horse owners. Or leasers, which ever. Even if you ride, or take lessons, or... whatever. Here's my story.
I do not own a horse, but I ride very frequently. My dad's best friend's daughter has two horses, and we ride on them alot. Her first horse is a Standerdbred, and he is light grey, with tiny little "flea bitten" brown spots. He's the horse I ride, and I would die for him. Her second horse is an Arabian, and he is brown with a white star. She trains both of her horses and rides Western (What I ride, GO WESTERN!!), and she wants to compete with the standerdbred in Barrles, and the Arabain possibly in team roping. I don't want to give out her name, or her horses's names for her privacy. Sorry. I also take lessons, so my riding time doubles.
Anyways, I just wanted to see if any side of the Heartland fans have an equine side too. Tell me what you do! Thanks!
ZoZo

No body has a horse, or rides, or loves horses? All of us love Heartland, aka "The Horse show of Canada" and none of you like horses? Oh well.

Okay, ZoZo. Patience. I'm here!! Yeah, our family owns 8 horses, 2 of which are mine. I ride Western as well (Oh yeah!!) and I don't have any plans of riding English. I train all our young ponies and I love going out for trail rides or working with the cows (Hurrah for cows!!! :) lol

July 28, 2010 at 7:31 AM
Nope. Don't ride or own horses! I used to ride, but I gave it up. Not all heartland lovers are horse lovers as well ;)

July 28, 2010 at 3:45 PM
@3blindmice, why did you give up? Hope you don't mind me asking.
@ponygal, that's so awesome your family owns so many horses!! Do you live on a ranch? I don't have any plans to start English either. And yes, I do agree that cows should be given a hurrah! Go Western and Cows!

July 30, 2010 at 3:54 PM
@Zozo- we live on a pig farm, but it's my goal to turn it into a ranch :) lol, I don't think my dad's gonna go for that, though!!
@ 3blindmice- Good for you; it's probably cheaper :) lol

My pony died a few years ago. I got out of riding for about 2 years, then went back with it by taking lessons and leasing. Currently, I still do not have a horse, but I am doing Western lessons on a horse named Banner. He's a Buckskin Quarter Horse (Looks like the one Amy rode with Soraya in the pilot when Ty revved his engine). In September, I will switch to English and jumping, but Western is what I have ridden since I was 6 years old, so it is my passion :)

@ponygal....actually, you'd be surprised, but it's not :)

July 31, 2010 at 4:46 AM
I don't have a horse and I have never ridden one either! D:
Western looks like alot of fun though, team roping and bulldogging and that other one, tying down the calf. I have to try it one day.

July 31, 2010 at 12:03 PM
@KMA88- I'm sorry to hear about your pony. It's good to hear you still ride.
@3blindmice- Whoa!! Seriously?? I am surprised!!
@DaleC- It's too bad you've never ridden before. I like your riding tastes, though!! Western all the way!!!!!!!!!

July 31, 2010 at 7:53 PM
I'd love to try bulldogging. No one will let me though! Barrel racing is fun. Would love to try breakaway roping one day.

@ponygal....yeah. My music teacher is expensive, but she's good! And we pay more for my music lessons every week than we would do if my sister was having riding lessons every week. (which, as it happens, she's not. She has riding lessons every fortnight.)

I love horses and its my life's passion to work with them. I have never owned or leased a horse but have been riding and taking lessons since I first discovered horses. I ride both English and Western and love jumping and hacking for hours. Im planning to go to the Equestrian Academy in Plettenburg bay after I graduate and cant even think of a life without horses, they arent just going to be in my life they ARE my life! :)

So, here's my story... *deep breath*
My family's had horses since before a was born. Dad use to work on ranches and rode broncs and bulls, so, naturally, I started Western. When I was 11, I fell in love with jumping, and, aside from a five-day day-camp every summer for four years, I trained myself as best as I could from books and videos. Eighteen months ago, I did my first show at 2'6" with my 15hh QH. Five months later, I attended a clinic by Canadian Olympian Jill Henselwood, and she "recruited" me to train with her on the other side of the country but said that I needed more horsepower (a horse that could jump higher). That was just over a year ago, and I now own two warmblood jumpers and show seventeen weeks of the year with Jill and the rest of the Juniper Farms team (in which I show 1.10m and 1.20m). Enough of an unlikely story for you? Lol!
I still ride Western when I'm home with my QH's, though, and it remains my strong background (hence, my username. Lol!)

Rea: 6yr - 15.2 - Silver Grulla - QH

Plus I'm not really the speed type. Her other horse, she's training to become a roping horse, and I can't even throw a rope, or keep the loop going. SOOO hard!

I have 4 horses
JB is a pure breed Connemara 6 year old that I trained from when he was 2 he's a great jumper and has lovely paces I use him for eventing and showing completions.
Lady is my Anglo Arab I use for dressage and some jumping, she mainly does dressage cause of her floating paces.
Jasper is my new exciting horse he is a 17hh 4 year old warmblood gelding with brilliant bloodlines. I am still training him, he is an amazing jumper, jumping around 1meter 30 already. He will make a awesum eventer.
Murphy my old pure breed Irish Draft he's a pure star i love him to bits, he's too old to do much riding but my little cousins and brother love to take a ride on him from time to time.
Btw I ride english (from ireland)

Im still stuck on weather I want to do eventing as my career or training...or just both? lol

Today... was the best day ever!!! I got to trot the whole time. I discovered that trotting for an hour hurts, but it was worth it!!! It completely improved my riding! I worked on my post trot, and finally got it! I feel do happy! I won a barrel race, at a trot, but I did win! So yey! Tomorrow I get to canter, but I'm upset, because it's the last day. Oh well, I'm taking lessons there!

@ Zozo and Maraiha, good for you! How long have you guys been riding for?
0
August 29, 2010 at 3:15 PM
@JumperCowgirl.
First rode when I was 5, but I was too scared of the horses, and I couldn't understand anything. I'd been riding on and off for a long time until the past year, when I've been riding twice a week.
